Text (SMS) Evangelism Year 1

Over 2000 years ago, Jesus said,

MAT 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [RSV]

It is an incredible fact, but 2000 years after our Lord gave us those marching orders, only 2 of the 6 billion people on earth have become Christians.

We have failed the Lord!

Clearly, we must mobilize everything at our disposal to accelerate our evangelization. We must do something. But “Me, an evangelist?” you may protest. “I would not know the first thing about doing that.”

But we evangelize every time we share any bit of the Bible with anyone.

And we certainly should employ any way we can that is effective.

One very effective way is to send Bible quotations via text messages to friends who may not be very familiar with the Bible. “But I myself am not that familiar with the Bible!” you may again protest. “What could I possibly quote?”

But supposing you had access to prepared text messages that you could send to friends? Supposing these messages were worded to catch the attention of recipients, and invite their curiosity about the Bible? Supposing these messages were designed to fit into the usual 160-letter limit of text messages? Supposing each of these messages included Bible quotes readily applicable to daily Christian living?

Such are the text messages that follow. Note that, unlike many messages being sent, the words are not abbreviated into sometimes unreadable shorthand, but fully spelled out. The only exceptions are the closing words, meant to say, “Good morning, and God bless you!” (GUD AM & GBU!)

So try these out. Help your friends become better acquainted with the Bible. Be an evangelist!
